Australian designer Catherine Prentice has created an elegant cottage in the heart of the Australian Outback.
The cabin in which she lives with her husband, two daughters and their two cats is called The Cat House.
The living space is set amongst the wild scrub, and she’s used to using her laptop and a portable audio player.
Catherine’s inspiration for the project came from a time when she visited her sister’s home in the US, and the living room became a place of meditation and contemplation.
The couple also have two dogs, a cat and two cats, so the family has plenty of room for entertaining and creative play.
Catherine said the cabin was designed to create a sense of space, and a place where you can enjoy life, rather than having to think about what you want to do or how you want the rest of your life to unfold.
“The cabin is a place for people to relax, to have a space to do what they love, and it’s not like you’re confined in a small space where you have to plan everything out, so you can’t really go for the long haul,” Catherine said.
“You can sit and play, watch movies and have a few drinks and have that quiet, relaxed feeling, whereas the longer you’re in a cabin, the more people there are.”
Catherine’s cats live with her in the cabin, but they’re not required to be inside the cabin to enjoy their own space.
Catherine hopes people will enjoy her project and use it to explore their own innermost selves.
“It’s really a way of exploring your mind and your inner thoughts, and what you need to do to get where you need a bit of relief,” she said.
Catherine is currently in Sydney to work on a book, but she has some ideas for her book to share with people in Australia.
“I’ve got a few ideas, a couple of new things that I’m working on, and they’re all in the back of my mind, but if people get a chance to read them, they’ll see that I love doing this,” she told ABC Radio.
“My goal is to create books that people can read and think about and maybe share with their friends, so that we can all share our innermost thoughts and feelings, and also our inner most desires, and hopefully inspire others to do the same.”
