In the first half of this year, France overtook Germany as the most popular country for home designers, according to a survey conducted by the French-based agency Alixa.
France was followed by the UK, Germany and Italy.
It is a sign of how far the French have come in terms of style over the last few years.
The country is also seen as the perfect place to buy an apartment.
The poll of 3,000 people, commissioned by Alixi, found that in 2017, a French woman was more likely to choose a property in France than anywhere else in Europe.
“The French are one of the few countries where people who don’t live in France are happy to spend money in other countries,” Alixia president Sylvain Dubourg told AFP news agency.
“They’re not interested in living in a country where they can get the same things that they can afford in the US.”
The French also have one of Europe’s most affluent economies, with the country enjoying a record $3.5 trillion GDP in 2017.
The report, which covers all French households, found the average salary in France was about $50,000, compared to a global average of $53,500.
In 2017, France was also the most affordable country in Europe, with median salaries of $34,700 in the capital Paris and $31,800 in the southern region of Provence.
The highest average salaries were in the south-east, where the average was $60,900.
The survey found that people living in France were also happier than their counterparts abroad, with 76 per cent of respondents saying they felt good about their financial situation.
The average French salary was about twice the national average of just under $60 000.
